We welcome Phillip Barkow as a PhD student in the CRC 1270 ELAINE.

Phillip studied Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rostock. During his master's studies, he already worked as an undergraduate assistant and completed his master's studies in project B01 of our CRC 1270 ELAINE.

After a short detour in the industry, he is since March 1st of 2024 back in project B01 of the CRC 1270 ELAINE. Phillip is conducting research in the field of osteochondral tissue engineering in Prof. Hermann Seitz's working group.

The main goal of his research is the treatment of the osteochondral defect, which is one of the main causes of osteoarthritis. Since the native tissue in joints has a very complex and hierarchical structure, there are many requirements to fulfill to reach the goal of a tissue-engineered replacement.

We are delighted that Phillip is back at the CRC 1270 ELAINE and wish him every success in tackling the challenges that arise when multiple materials with widely differing properties have to work together.
