Review Paper Published in Journal Bioactive Materials

We are happy to share a review paper from our CRC 1270 ELAINE member, Prof. Hermann Seitz, in the renowned journal Bioactive Materials! He created the review entitled "Advancements in hydrogel design for articular cartilage regeneration: A comprehensive review" in collaboration with international experts in bioactive materials.

Hydrogels are three-dimensional networks of hydrophilic polymers. Due to their biocompatible and mechanically adaptable properties, hydrogels offer an innovative basis for tissue regeneration, e.g., articular cartilage regeneration. As articular cartilage defects are common, advanced approaches to treat cartilage are highly relevant.

The review paper provides valuable insights into the design and application of hydrogels for the effective repair and regeneration of articular cartilage. Moreover, it explores the challenges and prospects of hydrogel-based therapies. Hydrogels offer a promising approach to treating cartilage defects and thus enhance the quality of life for people suffering from cartilage defects.
